New York/Broadway: Emcee in CABARET, winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical directed by Oscar Award winners Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall. Avery was also the first replacement for Tony Award winner Alan Cumming in the starring role of Emcee. He returned to the role many times over it’s 6 year run on Broadway and was asked to recreate the role for its premiere in South Korea and Japan.
Other notable productions include Broadway’s Hadestown at the Citadel Theatre. North American Tours of: CATS, Les Miserables as Marius and Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Donny Osmond. He collaborated with Tom Waits and Robert Wilson starring in their rock fable The Black Rider at the Ahmenson Theater in Los Angeles.
He has appeared on 3 Grammy and 2 Juno award nominated albums: “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat w/ Donny Osmond” and Broadway Inspirational Voices Gospel Christmas, “Great Joy” . Broadway cast recordings: “CABARET”, “Violet”, “My Favourite Broadway: Love Songs” PBS. Performances and concerts all over the world include those at: Lincoln Center, The Apollo, Carnegie Hall, Seoul Opera House, Tokyo Arts Center, Osaka Theatre, and 12 years as a featured soloist with “Broadway Inspirational Voices”.
